This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

  • No More Grand Cherokees for me! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The first major problem was the rear differential. At 62,000 it was toast. OK, my fault. Never had it serviced. Periodic maintenance "forces" you into Schedule B (any driving in freezing weather) which includes changing front rear axle fluid every 12,000 miles at $140 an axle, etc. Never serviced any of the 5 Subs either. The Nav sys display has quit working. It has come on a couple of times, then off again. Dealer says to replace it. Today it goes into local shop. Sometimes it just stalls. Now the elect. fan just runs for no reason. Engine temp OK. AC went last year. Has new compressor. Now it has quit. This is the SUV from hell!

I love my Jeep, but it wont stop breaking. The back is full of spare parts that always brake, lots of fuses and extra wire to make a fusible link from the battery. Why dont they have a fuse for the radio or power Windows? And why dont they make parts out of something other than plastic? I have been buying parts from the Audi dealership, and modifying them to work on my Jeep. Its now a Jedi.

Very dependable and reliable vehicle with a lot of comfort. Made very well only needs a little improvement. Would recommend it to everyone for purchase. The pricing and service is excellent. Not much else to say except if you need a vehicle Jeep is the way to go. Dollar for dollar you receive a good quality product for your investment and it is money well spent. With this vehicle you have peace of mind for safety security knowing this vehicle is a fine SUV.

  • 5.7L Hemi 4x4 Limited W/ NAV - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Amazing “sleeper” SUV. The Hemi V8 throws me back into the seat like I was driving my S2000, but with room for the road. It blazes up to speed and is great passing confidence on long steep grades. Great interior and electronics (e.g., integrated Bluetooth phone, 6-disk CD in an amazing stereo, Serious satellite radio, Nav system) and so many gadgets. Great undercover muscle car.

  • Never Getting One of These Again! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

We bought this Jeep used and one year old last fall. Since then it has been nothing but a money pit. The left front wheel bearings went out at 40k miles. The check engine light comes on and off constantly. The gas mileage is horrendous, much less than the sticker claims. The windshield cracked under the windshield wipers and it is clearly a defect as there are two separate cracks that line up w/ the front defrost, and it happened in winter when the defrost was running a lot. Chrysler refuses to fix this defect. Oh, and the seats stain from water! By far the worst car weve ever had.

  • Fine Choice - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This is my first Jeep so I cant compare to past models; however this is my 3rd SUV and so far its been great. The technology in this vehicle is current, not outdated leftovers; the build feel in tight and responsive. The 5.7 Hemi...well lets just say youll never understand it without test driving this vehicle. Great looks and a great driver. Goes anywhere when needed. This is the most complete vehicle Ive ever owned. Had an 04 VW Touareg that was also a fine SUV except the reliability was terrible.

  • Stay clear - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I unloaded my 05 limited, it had all the options and was my dream vehicle. I bought it at one year old to save a few bucks. Im sorry i ever traded my 2000 Cherokee for it. In the two years I owned it it leaked from the sunroof badly, blew a rear seal and had to replace the rear. Had two computer modules go. If your having weird things go on it is usually one of the modules. Everything was replaced under warranty and seemingly fixed but the luster had worn off because of the poor quality and I sold it as soon as the warranty expired. If i had to pay for the repairs myself it would have cost over $3,000. Jeep and Chrysler is off my list to buy for good. Only had 37,000 miles, what a shame.

  • They Finally Did It! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Just got my Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 Hemi (not under glass). This is as close to the perfect SUV as it gets. For starters, the exterior styling is pretty much non-descript and totally inoffensive. The inside is very comfortable. Seats are firm but not too firm. Lots of interior room. Has Bluetooth so your cellphone automatically kicks in and becomes handsfree in the car. The GPS and Sirius work like a charm. Nice oversize console box that can actually hold something useful besides three receipts and a paper clip. The Hemi is a beautiful thing. It is smooth, has a nice purr to it and gets your butt from 0-60 in 6.9 seconds. The ride is better than any SUV I have been, and thats saying a lot

  • Will Never Buy Jeep Again - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Bought 2005 GC used in Aug 2006. Vehicle has been nothing but problems - steering column replaced, computer system replaced (at Chryslers cost), EGR valve replaced. Vehicle only has 46,000 miles on it. Vehicle would stall while driving, wouldnt start on first try - Jeep service dept didnt believe me when I told them it just "died" while driving. Now theres a rattling sound when slight pressure is put on gas pedal.

I love my Jeep, but I cant give the company any further business. Warranty repairs that charge a deductible, parts that wear out in less than two years (and ARENT covered under warranty), and a customer service agent who told me that she didnt need my business. Just noticed that there were ZERO Chrysler products (including Jeep) were recommended by Consumer Reports: Im buying a new vehicle in the next three months and it (sadly) cant be a Jeep.
